Environmental Groups Voice Support for Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan

Plan sets first-ever limits on carbon pollution from the nation’s existing power plants

MICHIGAN – The undersigned groups from the Clean Energy Now Coalition released the following statement in support of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) finalized Clean Power Plan:

“Communities impacted by pollution, Michiganders fighting to stop climate change, and dozens of environmental organizations from around the state have been working for decades to stop power plants from polluting our air. This is a huge step forward in holding polluters accountable. We are proud to support the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, which will protect our health and our environment, and lower Michiganders’ electricity bills. Our Governor and state representatives should seize this opportunity they have to lead the nation in innovation, job creation, and protecting public health and our environment.”

  • Eric Keller, campaigns director for Clean Water Action
  • Alexis Blizman, policy director for the Ecology Center
  • Stephanie Karisny, staff attorney for the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center
  • Nicholas Occhipinti, director of policy and community activism for the West Michigan Environmental Action Council

Clean Energy Now is a coalition of groups that supports policies that will move Michigan beyond coal power and toward greater use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency as a way to protect the environment and build prosperity. Follow the campaign at CleanEnergyNowMI.org.
